Milipol Qatar Daily spoke with Sultan Mahmood Malik, Chief Security Officer Huawei Gulf North (Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain), at the show about the innovations Huawei was presenting this year and the importance of industry players coming together to strengthen cyber security across the board.
What are the main innovations you are presenting at Milipol Qatar this year?
Huawei is an ICT global leader, so our focus is on securing the ICT for a secure digital environment in the country. We are presenting two main solutions. The first is linked to intelligent operational control. This is based on digital twin technology and methodology, where we actually take the full information of the city’s digital assets and portray them on a very comprehensive application where we can see how different aspects of the city’s operation, like public safety, traffic, special events, are integrated with each other and how they are collaborating with each other. This comprehensive software has the ability to help the national agencies orchestrate their resources, have a quick view of events in the city, and take advantage of the AI by predicting and developing a pattern of any emerging events.
The cyber security landscape is evolving, and the biggest threat we are seeing is ransomware. So the second main innovation Huawei is displaying is its unique and one of the industry’s first multi-layer ransomware protection solutions. This has been the first in the industry to be verified by the Tolly Group, meaning they have tested our cybersecurity anti-ransomware product and it detected 100% of ransomware attacks.
How important is Milipol Qatar for the industry?
First of all, cyber security is a team sport. We are as safe as the weakest link in the cyberspace. Secondly, cyber security is no longer for geeks. Cybersecurity is no longer for just computers. Cybersecurity is a fundamental pillar of national security. This is why Milipol is a perfect opportunity for governments, national entities, industry bodies, private organisations and citizens to come together and understand what is needed not only now, but what we will need to protect this country, our national interests, our business interests, and our society’s interests in the next 3, 5, or even 10 years.
